Each Tuesday Hunter highlights the best classic films airing in the coming week on TCM.
Madonna plays baseball. Redford and Hoffman go mano-e-mano with President Nixon. And Jimmy Stewart plays…a badass?

Introduce yourself to lesser-known flicks from Martin Scorsese, D.W. Griffith, and under-the-radar horror producer Val Lewton.
Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Certainly not Buster Keaton, who so far as the cinematic record is concerned wasn’t afraid a’nuthin’. Also, Robert Osborne classes the joint up as only he can.
This week’s lineup features an American James Bond, a sequel to 2001, and one of only three starring roles for the iconically laconic James Dean.
Robots would go screwy. A classic comedy that would be classified as screwball. And a movie based on a play about a screwed up Southern family. It’s a screwy week here on Turner Classic Tuesdays, so go screw yourself, I guess.
If my descriptions this week seem woefully short on details, it’s because none of these films need much promotion.
Humphrey Bogart, Gregory Peck, and Clark Gable give you a lesson in how to be a man’s man…albeit it by playing murderers, thieves, and philanderers. It’s complicated. Ah hell, you’ll never be as cool as them so just stay home, and don’t hurt yourself.
Lots of less-remembered flicks are on the lineup for this week. If you’re looking for a common thread, I’d say each one was ahead of its time…it’s a weak thread, but c’mon man, I’m doing this for free!
Greta Garbo, Bette Davis, and Ingrid Bergman. Three of the finest film actresses to ever light up the screen get some love in this week’s lineup.
Turner Classic Movies is trying to kill me. Seriously. Some weeks I scratch and claw to find any films that are worthwhile. This week features three films that are certifiable classics. You can make some serious progress on your “Classic Films I Need To See” list this week alone.
