Madonna plays baseball. Redford and Hoffman go mano-e-mano with President Nixon. And Jimmy Stewart plays…a badass?

THIS WEEK’S PICKS

Tuesday, October 20
It’s been said “There’s no crying in baseball!” There is, however, plenty of stories to be told about America’s favorite pastime, like A League of Their Own. At 23 years old, can we say this film has graduated from the minors (i.e. permanent rotation on TNT), and is now among the greats, or at least one of the lesser-pieces?

Can the combined righteousness of Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman defeat the dastardly Nixon administration? If you have even a Buzzfeed-level of historical awareness, you know the answer is “Yes”. Still, see all the action unfold in All The President’s Men – the film that is said to have launched 1,000 journalism careers.
Sunday, October 25
In the 1950s, Jimmy Stewart, Mr. Smith and George Bailey himself, was actually kind of a badass. Yes, of course the real-life James Stewart was a legitimate WWII hero, but as far as his screen persona goes, he went in an interesting direction with westerns such as Broken Arrow. This isn’t his best, but is one of the first, and well worth a watch.
