Each Tuesday Hunter highlights the best classic films airing in the coming week on TCM.
We kick off the final month of 2015 with two lesser-known masterpieces, as well as one certifiable essential!
THIS WEEK’S PICKS
Tuesday, Dec. 1
If you were a rich man (or a solidly middle class man with a cable subscription that includes Turner Classic Movies), then you’d be wise to watch Fiddler On The Roof. An under-appreciated classic, this musical was directed by the under-appreciated Norman Jewison, who ironically wasn’t Jewish. Shalom!
Wednesday, Dec. 2
Speaking of under-appreciated masterpieces, In Which We Serve was co-directed by the brilliant British playwright Noel Coward and David Lean, one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. Before the United States ever entered WWII, this heart wrenching film made the case for the war for the entire Western world.
Saturday, Dec. 5
Picking your favorite Billy Wilder film is a lot like narrating a story while face down, lying dead in a pool…in other words, impossible. However, as far as his essentials go, Sunset Boulevard absolutely belongs at or near the top.
