THE PLOT
This sci-fi anthology series in the vein of “The Twilight Zone” reflects on the darker side of technology and human nature.
THE REASON
We haven’t had the chance to discuss it on the show, but Alex Garland’s Ex Machina was my favorite film of the year when it came out back in April, and it remains near the very top of that list. The cautionary tale of commingling with technology would feel right at home as one of the stand-alone episodes found in Black Mirror. Each is a self-contained story. There is no narrative continuity from one episode to the next and no recurring characters. The only thing connecting installments of the show is the the exploration of the many ways we are susceptible to becoming dependent on and consumed with technology.
The show has run for two season so far with three episodes per season, (plus a Christmas special starring Mad Men’s Jon Hamm. Man, those folks across the pond sure do love their christmas specials!) You could easily binge the entire series (so far) this weekend, and you should! Netflix just picked it up for a third season, and I couldn’t be more excited.
