Each Tuesday Hunter highlights the best classic films airing in the coming week on TCM.
Holy smokes! This week features both a Steve McQueen movie and Shaft? You damn right.
THIS WEEK’S PICKS
Tuesday, June 9
Before there was
Taxi Driver, there was Martin Scorsese’s 1973
Mean Streets. And before that there was Richard Roundtree kicking ass and landing tail in Gordon Parks’ 1971 Shaft. What, you haven’t seen Shaft? Shut yo’ mouth!
Wednesday, June 10
Remember
a few months back when I recommended the John Ford-directed, Will Rogers-starring 1934 film
Judge Priest? Well, now’s your chance to catch this hidden cinematic gem.
Saturday, June 13
You know when you sit around day-dreaming about how cool you’d like to be? Steve McQueen was cooler than that. Catch him in one of his coolest roles ever in
Bullitt, featuring perhaps the most famous car chase ever.
PS – If when you saw “Steve McQueen” you first thought of the dude who directed Shame and 12 Years A Slave, you should be ashamed
Sunday, June 14
Chris will be checking one of his War Crimes off the list when Erich von Stroheim’s 1924 silent masterpiece,
Greed, airs Sunday night.
With an original runtime of around 8-hours, Greed was severely trimmed back by the studio. This version runs either 242 minutes or 129 minutes, depending on whether you trust the description or the schedule.
