Each Tuesday Hunter highlights the best classic films airing in the coming week on TCM.
So I was reviewing TCM’s schedule this week, and all of the movies that spoke to me were directed by John Huston. And then John Huston (well, his ghost) would probably backhand me for saying “spoke to me” like some hippie, then sip straight whisky, shoot an elephant, and father a bunch of children.
THIS WEEK’S PICKS
Tuesday, June 02
Bogie and Bacall battle the wrath of nature and Edward G. Robinson in
Key Largo, directed by…John Huston.
Friday, June 05
Another John Huston movie? It’s my list so shut up! Humphrey Bogart stars in a career-defining performance as private eye Sam Spade, battling gangsters Sidney Greenstreet and Peter Lorre to find
The Maltese Falcon. This film practically invented film noir.
Friday, June 05
The Man Who Would Be King. Holy hell is this a sweet movie. Sir Sean Connery and Sir Michael Caine are wily British officers who abandon service to rule as gods over a desert tribe. Oh, and it’s directed by John Huston (see above). Oh, and it’s based on a novella by Sherlock Holmes-creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (who is played by Sir Christopher Plummer). If you need any more selling, Sir, you suck.
