Each Tuesday Hunter highlights the best classic films airing in the coming week on TCM.
My penchant for picking pictures with Orson Welles and Gary Cooper continues unabated. Clearly I have a type.
THIS WEEK’S PICKS
Thursday, May 21
One of my favorite genres? 1970s-era disaster flicks. And The Poseidon Adventure is one of the most disastrous…in a good way. If you need added incentive, Chris’ man-crush Gene Hackman plays a unorthodox preacher.
Friday, May 22
Fridays with Orson Welles continues. While there are a few worthwhile choices this week, I’m going to give a particular nod to Welles’ documentary of a notorious art forger, F For Fake. Or am I?
Saturday, May 23
From one of the greatest and most underrated directors, starring one of the greatest and most underrated movie stars – Friendly Persuasion, directed by William Wyler, and starring Gary Cooper. Cooper plays a pacifist Quaker whose son (played by a pre-Psycho Anthony Perkins) demands they choose sides in the Civil War. Need more persuasion? How about a very un-Quaker like slap and “What is wrong with you!”
