Turner Classic Tuesday — August 18-24, 2015

Each Tuesday Hunter highlights the best classic films airing in the coming week on TCM.

Turner Classic Movies is trying to kill me. Seriously. Some weeks I scratch and claw to find any films that are worthwhile. This week features three films that are certifiable classics. You can make some serious progress on your “Classic Films I Need To See” list this week alone.

THIS WEEK’S PICKS

Tuesday, August 18
If there ever was a movie worthy of the title MOVIE, it’s Gone With The Wind. You’ve no doubt seen, heard, or read many things about it, from many competing cultural voices. Frankly, I don’t give a damn. One way or the other, if you call yourself a film fan, you need to see this movie.
Wednesday, August 19
Oh man…do I love The Searchers. John Wayne has never been bigger, and John Ford has never been better. Yeah, you need to see this movie too.
Sunday, August 23
Singin’ In The Rain? C’mon TCM, are you trying to kill me?!?!? Yeah, you need to see this movie too. Singin’ In The Rain is one of the greatest, if not the greatest, musicals ever made. You’ll go into hit a bitter, cantankerous ogre, and be bludgeoned by its merciless onslaught of optimism, merriment, and old-fashioned charm. I should know. I’m the most cynical person I know, and after watching this movie I feel like singin’ in the damn rain.
