Friday Featured Flix — Twin Peaks

Every Friday Chris hand-selects a streaming recommendation for your weekend.

This Week’s Featured Flick

The short-lived, but much beloved David Lynch/Mark Frost television series Twin Peaks on Netflix

NETFLIX DESCRIPTION

“Who killed Laura Palmer?” is the question on everyone’s lips in a secretive small town, but as an eccentric FBI agent learns, the answer isn’t easy.

I’m on vacation this week, so I will keep the recommendation relatively short. Last week we released a very special War Crimes review discussing David Lynch’s Blue Velvet. While discussing the film I realized there are probably plenty of people in a position similar to Hunter’s. If you find that you are intrigued by Lynch’s body of work, but have absolutely no idea where to start, Twin Peaks would be a great entry point for you.

Season one is fairly immaculate. It’s a whodunit. It’s a soap opera spoof. It’s a historical artifact of a rare and bizarre moment in the early 90s when someone with power at ABC said “Yeah, I think we should give David Lynch his own hour long show.”

Season two slumps in the middle, but don’t let that deter you. It finishes strong with a satisfying conclusion to the Laura Palmer story and a new open-ended opportunity to explore the world of Twin Peaks from a new direction.

As of the time I am writing this, Showtime has just doubled its order of Twin Peaks episodes to 18, and David Lynch is currently onboard, so you might as well catch up on the original series now.
